Pesos Accepted at Circle K
The Peso, it’s everywhere you want to be (yep, just made that up). This isn’t exactly breaking news. After all, banks in the U.S. have been accepting Pesos for decades. Difference is, banks only give you U.S. dollars in return for Pesos. Circle K offers twinkies, corn dogs and beer in exchange for Pesos. Sure beats eating green-backs. As a currencies value analyst, I predict that by not waiting for the mints to start churning out Ameros, this bold marketing move will make Circle K the new Wal-Mart (unless, of course, Wal-Mart decides to accept Pesos too, in which case Circle K will continue to be a dirty little convenience store and Wal-Mart will still have low prices).
I stopped by a Circle K in So-Cal a few weeks ago and there was a sign dangling on the door that mentioned oportunidades equitativas de empleo, but it didn’t say anything about Pesos. Had I known of their Peso policy, I would have tendered the pocket full of change I brought back from my vacation to the Mexican Riviera three years ago. The Mexican Peso has more than tripled since then.
As an aside, if you didn’t understand the stuff in bold (above), you need to start reading more product labels. In only 6 weeks, I became fluent in Spanish by simply reading the instructiones and informacion on the packaging of diapers, wipes and Desitin (yes, my infant is now six weeks old).
Other than that, my experience at the Circle K was pretty typical. They were just locking up for the afternoon siesta as I was pulling out and I couldn’t help but notice the teenagers cracking open the tops on most popular beer in the Americas: Dos Equis. Salud! (consumo responsable)
